Turton recorded their highest GCSE scores ever this summer, with 69% of the year group achieving 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths. This is 6% up on last year and the first time the school has come close to the 70% barrier.

The English department led the way with an amazing 83% A*-C in English Literature and 80% A*-C in English Language, a massive improvement on last year’s performance.

A fantastic 50 students gained 5 or more top grades in a brilliant achievement for the year group.
Headteacher, John Porteous, congratulated the students on their performance, saying:

“This year group have set a great example by their hard work, their support for each other and their enthusiasm for everything that Turton has to offer. As well as achieving record results, they are champions of Bolton in several different sports, fantastic musicians, scientists, artists and creative talents in subjects from Technology to Graphics to Drama.

I must put on record my gratitude to all the staff and parents at Turton who have guided these students through their time at school. There has been so much nonsense and interference with exams and courses nationally in the last couple of years, it is hard to keep our young people positive and committed to their studies, but our staff and parents have done a great job.”

Leading the way this year are the Head and Deputy Head boys and girls who scored an incredible 58 top grades between them: Ben Cartwright, Ross Smith, Alice Finn, Amy Howatson, Lucy Ainsworth, Ryan Farnworth.
Other high flyers include: Joe McPhillips, Ben Comer, Jacob Bewicke and Kat Hamer.
